When it comes to the share of expenditure and savings to income, the Destitute households outspend what they earn (114 percent) but also save. The biggest savers are the Rich households which save 43 per cent of what they earn. A little less than half of all Destitute households, and a quarter of Aspirer households have negative surplus income (current year income minus expenditure), or in other words, are indebted and therefore borrow money to make ends meet.
